SCSM 2018 Full Marathon

Can’t believe it’s my 3rd SCSM and my 4th FM. 454, 444, 457 and this at 4hr 55min. More to come.. 😅

Feel touched to have such a supportive daughter whom woke up before dawn, standing long hours under the sun just to wait to cheer for me, for the 3rd year. The anticipation to reach 33km mark to see her, made my 1st 33km seems shorter.

Feel touched by my son who gently tapped on my shoulder, asking “So, you happy with your timing?”. His simple supportive gesture gave my almost collapsing body a small boost. I dozed off (completely pengsan) after that.

Till my next FM, will continue setting goals to pursue!

Running has given me many things, not just physical fitness but friendship.

Am I the only person that loves the suffering of the Long run?

I simply love how I slowly accumulate the KMs until it reaches 42.195km. The soreness of my muscles and the sweats make me happy for simplest reason.

Lunch at Mahota

Last Carbo load lunch at Mahota, Tampines Century Square.

Surprisingly nice meal at reasonably priced

There are choice of Little box / Regular box where you can pick 1 base, proteins, supplementary, greens and drinks.

I chose yong Tao foo. A little special where I have to go choose the ingredient inside the market. 6 pieces at $2.40. Pay additional $2 for a brown rice or noodles and they will help you cook 👍🏻

Choosing what to go into their little or regular boxes
Daddy chose Christmas bento. Pretty awesome as well
XMas Bento at $9.80

With our friends 🥂
He recommended and was vv nice

Batam Trip

Small island of Indonesia

Nothing fancy, a 2D1N getaway with my family. We go see and experience it ourselves.

Yes, finally stepped into Batam.

Everything, as usual was arranged by my hubby. We gotten the ala carte type where we bought:

1. Ferry ticket at 10% discount. Departure 830am from Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal to Harbor Terminal, Batam

Upon departure, we bought our data plan SIM card cost $10 for 6GB right at the terminal itself.

2. We booked driver at cost $60 for 10hr. Contacted the driver and off we go in the 6 seater Avanza.

Didn’t know there is time different between Singapore and Batam 🤔 Yape, Batam is 1 hour later. Singapore 9am and Batam 8am

3. 1st, stopped at a nearby coffee shop for our breakfast. Traditional local coffee, tea and prata

We ordered Egg, Egg+Onion, plain prata and chicken murtabak. All at only SGD$10+, somewhat reasonable.

It’s simply nice

4. We stop at the nearby Tua Pek Kong Temple.

The driver insist to help us take family pictures

Strolling around the garden but what’s more attracting here was the kitten
Great Wall alike surrounded the temple.
Next, we went to book for our massage at local time 7pm

Me and hubby took a 2hr traditional massage at $38. The kids booked for 1.5hr leg massage at $25.

We then proceed to this place called golden city. Here we 1st stopped for some layer cake tasting. Well, it’s very commercialised with busses sending passengers over to taste and purchase the layer cake.

Nope! We bought nothing from here 😂😂😂

Just a turn, we are here within golden city for our lunch. It’s tourist recommended place for lunch, and so we are her. We are tourist 💁

Hot! Let’s wefie

$2.50
They both love this gigantic coconut water

Nice but it’s a bit too much for just me and hubby

👍🏻 must try

Total bill $42, very reasonable considering the portion and dishes that we ordered.

Just another turned, we arrived at this GoCart playground. Each $15 for 10minutes GoCart drive.

They were each given a shower cab to put on before putting on the helmet. 😂 coz the helmet was smelly I Guess

All geared up and ready to enter
10minutes was fast for the kids but was slow for the daddy 😂😂😂

The children enjoyed the GoCart a lot. They were sharing their experiences on how slow, how fast , how sharp was the turn. Although it doesn’t look appealing to me, but happy to see the children enjoying.

Another turn and we reached the place where Cheng Ho cruise located. It’s Cheng Ho cruise replica. I have no idea what is this cruise about but the driver said it was where Cheng Ho stopped by.

Cheng Ho was a great Chinese explorer. He expedited to explore the world for the Chinese emperor and to establish Chinese trade in new areas. He stopped over at Batam as well.

Next, relates to Cheng Ho as well. The mosque 🕌 dedicated for Muslim Chinese people there. The architecture combined both Chinese and Malay elements. Rather unique to me.

😊funny, this driver likes to help us take family pictures.

We were sent back to our hotel, Biz Hotel $68 for 2 rooms – including free buffet breakfast. Hotel was moderate and complete.

Very quickly checked-in and we proceed to next destination which is the Berelang Bridge. 30min journey from our hotel.

We stopped at Diana Layer cake shop for quick taste and yes, we bought a big box of original layer cake.

Tasting area and left was the kitchen

For us to taste

Like how the shop operates. Upon us reaching, they immediately brought over cut pieces of all available flavours for us to taste. There were free water too. Price list stated there and we are separated from the kitchen. We just buy though the divider

To the Beralang bridge which is 30min drive. Okay, we all dosed off 💤 dosed off

We stopped at one end of the bridge and walked to the opposite. Took few pictures and enjoyed the scenery on TOP and along the walk. Was Super windy, in fact, was very strong wind. Nice 👍🏻

Little do we expect, the bridge was half closed for marathon in next 7hr time 😂😂😂

Like really we going to run 🤔

One of the planned by hubby was to buy this pisang keju (fried banana with cheese). But the stall was so overwhelming that we have to wait for 30minutes. We give it a miss for this round.

Back to Batam town – 30 min drive again. This time to the real shopping cum food heaven (coz of its price).

Best meal was somehow a random choice we picked in Nagoya mall. The dinner was so sumptuous and at only $19

Seriously, we ordered another take away avocado juice at $1.50 only 😊

Quickly got 2 slices of cake and off we go for our pre-booked massage

The Kamayan massage wasn’t as good. Should have tried the highly recommended secret spa. Nonetheless, the 2hr massage still Shiok.

Next, we went back to hotel.

We went to the roof TOP to sing birthday song for our princes. And video called my parent. Small cake but memorable 2018 birthday nonetheless. Rooftop birthday celebration while videocalled grandpa and grandma

Bought cup noodles which is like a much have whenever we overseas. Also bought 2 bottles of yogurt drink for the children. Nice 👍

sleep 💤

Next morning, we went for the hotel buffet breakfast and 10am boarded the free shuttle bus to Nagoya Mall for our Makan + Shopping ✌️

We did our phone tempered glasses which cost $3 each. Phone casing which is like $3 as well.

Recommended and we bought big original at $22
Share tea before our movie
Finally got to try the pisang goreng but with avacado instead of the popular keju (cheese)
Can’t believe this is only $2.50

This is really 😋 yummy. Cautious coz it is vvv sweet
$4 per ticket.

Let’s go for lunch before leaving Nagoya mall. If only I will come Batam again, I don’t mind just be here for massage, food and shopping 🛒

Too much, too heavy a meal.

Not prata. This is what my mom used to make for us during weekend when we were small. 👍
And finally, pisang goreng keju. Comes with set of 2 half boil egg, drink and this at $3.50
This is nice. It’s tapioca
Ryan’s fav Bandung drink

Bye bye 👋 Batam

Was a great getaway experience for us. That’s what we needed. Simple getaway, another experience that add into our lives.

Sunday 32km run, Temple pray + Korean Dinner & Avacado Muffin

Yeah 😉, clocked my 32km weekend run. So much easier when I have someone to chat with along the route. Always felt the best when it’s over. Can’t be happier when it’s done.

Was anticipating for today’s run due to some of new route. Never run before, excited a little. But what made today’s run even more interesting was, we ran half our distance under the rain. The rain has made my run easier. So, why is sunshine better?

Chatting and wasting time after run 😊 well, I don’t mind 😂😂😂

This is what I look forward to after my weekend long run; food and some company 👍🏻

Went to temple to pray for Ryan’s better result. PSLE releasing this Thursday. Of course, nothing could be changed but I feel is good to let the kids know that God is approachable 🙏

Admired the kids sincere look when praying. Ryan even asked if can borrow him money. He wanna pay oil for further respect. And he literally returned me the money when he returned home 👏👏👏

Renee loves this street ice cream. Prices increased to $1.20 now, still reasonably low.

Early dinner at Seoul Yummy booked through eatigo – 50% discount. We ordered 2 sets, a spicy hotpot and another cheese hotpot.

Finally, Avacado chocolate chips muffin for tomorrow breakfast.

Have not try, better be nice 😉

Weekend Sat Meals

It’s been a while since I prepared breakfast for the kids. Feel really bad on that.

Supposed to cook Bak Kut Teh as lunch but we went to school open house and lingered around for too long.

Bak kut teh and fried lady’s finger has became dinner instead.

1st time cooking bak kut teh. Added hard boiled egg, shitake mushroom and tou pok. All into pressure cooker with Meat function. Done in 12minutes. Successful, they love it.

Can try to reduce the water to 1.5 liter.

Chili padi, as usual, is a must.

Premium spare ribs and spare ribs super yummy.

Prior to this, I also went for coffee with hubby and had our favourite steam bun from ya kun. Feeling sinful for eating so much.

Nevermind, tomorrow 34km. Keeping my finger cross that I can make it.

Renee back from Nanjing trip

Picking up Renee from T3.

Since she has been aways for a week, we were all guessing what food she will miss the most. 🤔Chicken rice, burger, prata..?

We were all so happy to see her. Glad that she had enjoyed the trip so much. Surprisingly she preferred Suzhou over Nanjing.

Happy to hear her sharing her trip experiences, from visiting school, visiting factories, meals, Dr Sun Yat-den’s Mausoleum, and many more.

Selfie while walking towards the carpark.

Suzhou picture from her phone

Anyway, we decided on western food Andes by Astons.

Ryan favourite is always the fried and he will stay with the same forever; Crispy Fried Fish (side Fries and Mac&Cheese)

Renee would prefer to try out something different; Lemon Lime Chicken (side Mac&Cheese and Garden Vege)

Does she look like she miss Western food?

Ryan’s

Renee’s

Daddy always go for something safe and cheaper version; Fiery Chicken (side House Salad and Baked Potatoes)

😂 😂 😂 Immediately after I took the pic.

This is what I least expected. She bought back all these.

There’s also Chinese tea 😂😂😂

We were given X-5 to try when we were in Korea many years ago. Since then, we have been craving for it.

Renee bought it back for us this time. Product of Korea or China?

This skirt. Yes it’s nice and it’s cheap, RMB29. Hopefully she would wear it. It’s indeed nice 😍

Of all, we are most looking forward to try is this Amu Xi drink, the drink we always see when we watch 梦想的声音

Well, this is really nice. We love it a lot 😋

More when she started to dig her luggage.

Pineapple tart. OK. Yet to try

I would be even happier if she can spend some time to pen down her experience but she.. Lazy

Lots of pictures to catch up from her phone. Shall listen to more stories by then.

Ryan last day of primary school

Usually, we will just drop him off and we will leave. Today, I insisted to see him going into school.

He reluctant to let me take pic of him. I ended up only able to snap 2 pic of him walking into school, the last day after 6 years here.

Well, it’s last day finally. Can’t wait to see him in his secondary uniform and his new secondary lives. But for today – knowing its last day, the football field, his favourite teachers, his complaints, his cheerful memories, his buddies and all. So much memories.

How was my primary school last day felt like? I have no idea.

But for his, I felt emotional.

Glad he survived and enjoyed the 6 years. Thanks to all teachers and parents for leaving Ryan with countless lives experiences and knowledges. Lot’s of friendships, making his 6 years journey so much more fun and memorable. I’m sure he will miss the school. Thank you Mee Toh for having my 2 children. The graduated 🥂

They are Proud to be part of Mee Toh kids 😊

Till your next journey to the secondary school, be resilient and stay cheerful 😊

Weekend Brunch at Yum Cha @Chinatown

Guess it’s not only me who always constantly looking for places to satisfy both kids and ourselves, as well as keeping the kids aways from gadgets.

Its weekend again. As usual, the hardest thing is always to decide on where to eat and what to eat. Glad that this time round, renee has her idea. It’s in her bucket list to eat at this place, Yum Cha at Chinatown.

Omg. Why not?

I don’t need to scratch my head to decide 😂😂😂

Come on, what else is in your bucket list. Just name it and I’ll follow. So happy 😊

Anyway, we finally recalled that we have been here many many years back with my mom.

Overall, we love this place coz of its traditional setups, with people from young to old chatting noisily 😊

Happy to have meal together as a family, regardless. Thanks for always believing with mommy. Lovely 😍

First Family Run @Coney Island

Were so overwhelmed to know that, a running event near to our vacinity. A trail run at @Coney Island 👏🏻. It’s like just a stone throw away. No second thought, signed up immediately for both Renee and me when the race opened for registration.

Screen Shot 2016-05-04 at 8.08.51 AM

Just 2 weeks before the race, the event organiser set up a booth at WaterWay Point. And this time having 15% discount. How could I leave Ryan and Edward behind while Renee and I running, especially running in such a conveniently located race area. Went there and signed up for Ryan and Edward too.

Screen Shot 2016-05-04 at 8.43.34 AM.png

And yes, we finally can all  geared up in the same running race-T and run the same pace as a family. One thing I am pretty sure is that, the route will definitely be a familiar one and no doubt a scenic one too.

A week before the race, or rather, on the day we completed our Run350 Half Marathon, Renee sent us a message that she was down with 39.3 high fever. Situation wasn’t quite encouraging especially there were no sign of recovery after few days with fever still ranging between 39 to 38. Told ourselves that it’s just 5K, lets do it slowly and steadily. If I could judge correctly, I know how much Renee wanted to see herself doing much better than her GEWR which she had clocked a strong 36min in her ever 5k run race. Fantastic job.

Just when we started feeling thankful with Renee’s recovery, Ryan fever 😦 However, he was in his high spirit and insisted to participate regardless. He even took picture of his Race-T with bib and share it to his friends. We gave Ryan medicine the night before, well hydrated them and all to bed earlier the night before.

He took this picture and sent it to his friends 😊:

On race day morning, I woke up, first thing is to feel Ryan’s forehead. Still hot! Extremely naive that very morning, knowing Ryan still having his fever @37.6 degree. Instead of insist him to ‘NOT RUNNING’, I let him decide it himself. When I am pretty sure what he will answer. Rightfully, I should not have allowed them to run 😔. But both insisted they are okay & wanted to go ahead 😜 💪🏻. Me, mixed feeling; not wanting them to stay at home feeling disappointed when the race is going on but they are sick leh 🤔

Talk and think so much, we ended here, waiting for the shuttle bus to transport us to the event site:

Family picture at the event site:

Kids took another shot with the big Coney Island poster:

The starting point was a 700m away from the event site. Thankfully for the familiar route and the scenic view had made it a good 700m. Along the way, I snapped some nice pictures too:

We reached the starting pen before 8am, the MCs were then still flagging off the 10KM runners. Waiting patiently and eagerly for our 5km flag-off moment. Glad that we managed to squeeze in the first 2 rows of 5km run.

Both Renee and Ryan was in their highest spirit upon entering the cosy-beautiful Coney Island Trail. Everything seems perfect – Edward was pacing Ryan steadily while I’m pacing Renee happily too. Not long, at about 1.5km away, Renee who was actually still having her cough, chocked while trying to sip some water. She looses a little confident then, paused but continue in few seconds. Steady girl, power!

Despite running the same routes again, I still find this place ‘BEAUTIFUL’, except for the stretch exiting from Coney Island back to Sunrise bridge. So so happy to see Renee and Ryan pushing themselves to complete each KM despite not in the best of health condition.

The run was pretty nice experienced until we hit 2.5km, when we exited Coney Island trail, when we first spotted a hydration station. YEAH (thought in my heart – can get some cold water)! 1st water station. To my greatest disappointment, never in my whole entire running experience, OUT OF WATER? All I could hear was a teenager apologising profusely to the runners, ‘Sorry for the inconvenient, we had ran out of water’. Witnessing his sincerity, my gratitude suddenly kicked in; is ok, we have our water. Ya, thank god we were carrying our water coz kids wasn’t feeling well and we thought to bring our extra water, just in case. Can’t imagine if we didn’t carry our own water bottles. Extremely sorry to many other kids who joined this 5km run; doubt they brought their own water. Wonder if there’s any medic prepared too. Kids braving the scorching hot sun + no water; OMG, organiser should really do some serious reflection.

Still, I enjoyed my run with my kids. At one point, Ryan was seen dragging himself under merciless hot sun, walking with both arms swinging like strengthless boy. I followed suite and took a picture of his zombie-tiredness look.

Anyway, that moment doesn’t last him too long. He started back his pace and to my greatest surprised, he could seriously CHIONG-ing when he saw the finishing line. If I have my most experienced calculation, i supposed his pace for the last 100m was about @4min. Sorry, even i can’t catch up with his pace. Yes, I had pushed my best speed thou. Happy to know that he really wanted to do his best, no just in academy but in sports! Jia You!

Few seconds later, we saw Renee and Daddy passing the finishing line too. Renee is always the steady one. She knew and analysed her body too much that at times she had forgotten that she should push for breakthrough. It’s never easy but it’s possible! Although her pace was already very good but I am 100% sure that she can do better if she had stronger will. Be confident.

At the finishing line, the volunteers were distributing our medals to us. Grabbed it and we are done with 5KM. Thought this isn’t so grand-way to distribute medals, not sure but this is my 1st time collecting my medal this way.

We took some victory pictures with our medals at our super-familiar finishing point. There were isotonic drinks offered by the event organiser at finishing point.

After the run, Ryan keep mumbling that he could have done better. Told him, there’s plenty more chance, no worry.

We went to the nearby Ah Dong for our family breakfast. Imagine after sweat and went into this air-con restaurant. SUPER COLD!

I’m confident that the kids can endure 5km run coz they had done few times 5km run with me at the park. No aching after this race (I think). Now, Ryan also experience his 1st Running even, altho not a too perfect experience but still a race event. Renee had her 1st 5km great eastern run event experience – that was a good experience!

Besides that, overall running routes and distance was fairly accurate. Didn’t want to complain too much and really wanted our first family run to be a memorable one. Thankfully, both kids managed to finish strongly despite not in their best health condition🤒. Thats life, we struggle along the journey, hoping for the best at the later-part. Never say die throughout the journey and I’m sure you not regret and will not remember how pain when you cross the finishing line. If you feel pain when running, try losing it. Running had thought us to be strong, everything is possible. Solved it and you will see yourself at the finishing line, sometimes you don’t even know how.

Thanks Renee and Ryan for trusting Daddy and Mommy. We love love both of you 😘😘Looking forward for another family run – for a better experience for the kids too
